SULLY SPORTS 5
BUILDING on a goal after just six minutes of Saturday's South Wales Senior Soccer League clash, Sully Sports produced an excellent attacking display for this First Division victory in the Rhymney Valley.
In brilliant sunlight and on a well grassed pitch, Sports went ahead when Alex Long picked out Garron Davies on the far right of the penalty box and, taking the ball in his stride, the latter struck a beauty past a helpless 'keeper.
Although the pitch soon began to cut up, it made no difference to the attacking football of the Sports, with Taylor Harding often linking with the forwards and heaving some long throws into the goalmouth to unsettle the home defence.
Despite having to defend desperately, Fochriw reached half-time without conceding further.
The second half was more of the same, with Sports dictating the play and the back four of Harding, Jones, Beddard and James coping well and 'keeper Kieron Sharratt being untroubled.
Sports eventually broke through again when Conner McInery headed home and soon added a third against a tiring home team, with Dan Lawlor and Long causing problems and the former firing home after a great run.
Livewire Long netted the fourth before Fochriw replied in a rare attack. However, back came Sports, with Long breaking through to chip the advancing 'keeper for his side's fifth goal.
There was still time for substitute Gavin Beddard to make a brave run into the penalty area before his crashing shot rebounded into play after thudding against the crossbar, with the player injured after a defender tried to stop his run.
A club spokesman said: "This was a very good performance from Sully against a difficult team on their own pitch."
Sully man of the match - Liam Beddard.
This Saturday Sports entertain Butetown at Swanbridge; players to report at 12.30pm. This is always a very tough game and Sports will have to be at their best to continue their fine run.
After the Swanbridge pitch passed a late morning inspection, Sully Sports' Vale League side took full advantage to register a thumping 10-0 Supporters' Cup win over First Division rivals Inter Penarth.
There were hat-tricks for Ryan Warden and fit again Arron Longamo, while Daniel "Spud" Reid and man of the match Kyle Lewis added two apiece. Yellow jersey - James Kedward.
LADIES' CUP WIN
Sully Sports Ladies gained a fine 3-1 cup victory in their local derby with Vale Ladies in front of a good crowd.
In a keenly contested game, Sully played some good football to the great delight of coach Mark Brown. The game was a personal triumph for hat-trick hero Jess Cogbill.
This Sunday Sully return to league action and travel down the M4 for a 2pm kick off against Swansea City.
