NEWPORT Gwent Dragons hooker Sam Parry has been called up to train with Wales – but former captain Ryan Jones has been ruled out of the Six Nations.

Parry, 22, will join up with the rest of the squad tomorrow along with Scarlets lock Jake Ball while Jones has been replaced by Ospreys teammate James King.

The Dragons front row forward is uncapped but trained with the international squad before their tour of Japan last summer.

Parry will head to the Vale of Glamorgan headquarters to provide cover for Richard Hibbard, who suffered a hip injury playing for the Ospreys against Leinster last Friday. Scarlets pair Ken Owens and Emyr Phillips are the other hookers in the squad.

Wales’ hopes of a third Six Nations title on the spin have suffered a blow with the withdrawal of influential former captain Jones because of a hamstring injury.

He also suffered the blow in Dublin on what could prove to be a costly Heineken Cup clash for head coach Warren Gatland, who will be sweating on the involvement of lock Ian Evans after he was red carded for an alleged stamp.

The Jones blow and Evans' likely ban could help Dragons' captain Andrew Coombs' hopes of Six Nations action at either lock or blindside flanker.
