A PLEASANT April afternoon graced the opening day of the 2014 Thomas Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire Cricket League, but Penarth's cricketers will have to wait until May to begin their campaigns, as both the 1st XI game against Croesyceiliog, and the 2nd XI game against Miskin Manor, were called off on Saturday morning by their respective opponents.

The previous evening had seen an excellent turnout for the first social event of the summer, a quiz and curry night held at the athletic club, which was won by Mark 'Jonty' Thomas and his team. Thanks go to Rhys Morgan for a well organised event which helped to raise important funds towards our ever increasing running costs.

These are exciting times for the club, as we have this season secured the services of Ryan Sylvester from Sully Centurions. Ryan is renowned in South Wales cricket circles for being consistently amongst the top performing batsmen in league cricket, and his appointment as club coach is indicative of our continued investment in quality coaches, and indeed our ambition on the field for this season and beyond.

The club has also agreed a two year 1st XI playing shirt sponsorship deal with Cigg-e (www.cigg-e.co.uk) who recently opened a new branch in Penarth. This funding will help with our aim of continually improving facilities, as well as providing the opportunity for all our members to enjoy participating in sport in a safe, family orientated environment.

Finally a reminder that all senior and junior training has now moved outdoors, where we look forward to welcoming new and existing members this summer. For further details, please visit our website www.penarth.play-cricket.com
