A PENARTH Cricket Club player has been given the honour of playing for Wales as he collected his first cap on Saturday.

Evenlode Primary School pupil Zac Essenhigh was selected for the Wales Under-11 cricket team back in May after he underwent an eight month trial process.

Zac started playing for Penarth Cricket Club when he was seven-years-old, by the time he was eight he was picked to play for Cardiff and the Vale County, representing the team for the past three years.

Following hard work, Zac was put forward to play for his country which he proudly did at the SWALEC Stadium.

Not only has Zac had the honour to represent Wales, where he has become top run scorer with 390 runs, including a 92 not out against Somerset and taking two wickets, he has also become the Cricket Wales Under-11 Player of the Year.

Each year, coaches nominate a player they feel deserves the award with the selection based on the boys’ individual performances throughout the season. This year Zac was picked after an incredible season.

He also scored more than 400 runs for county this year.

Not being satisfied with being a great cricket player, Zac is also a talented tennis player and is currently on a National Tennis Camp at the LTA Centre in Roehampton, training with the top 16 boys of his age group from around the UK.
