Prize treat for a special couple

A PENARTH couple have won the first monthly Penarth Times and Meditteraneo Restaurant 'Special Moments' competition after being nominated by their next door neighbour.

Jill and Mick Spiller, of Queen's Road, Penarth, were nominated by Caroline Whittaker for their kindness and humility.

In nominating them Miss Whittaker, who has lived next door to them since 1991, said: "They are the best neighbours in the world, always helping others out, raising money for charity.

"Mick even once helped repair the Naval Cadets' hut. Jill works as a cleaner at Headlands School and each year she and her husband organise a motorbike rally to raise money for the school."

Miss Whittaker has a busy working life as a nurse and spends much time away with the Territorial Army at weekends. As a result, her neighbours spend a great deal of time looking after her animals.

When she served in Bosnia for eight months they were always there to support her friend and again help out with the animals when her friend needed a break.

She said: "They are also two of the nicest people you could meet, and despite never having very much money, they raised three beautiful children (grown up now) and are always cheerful, ready to help out anybody less fortunate than themselves.

"They really deserve to be chosen as affording to eat out for them is impossible and I know they would feel very humble to be nominated and would enjoy the special moment."
