CDs Review

SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR'S debut album 'Read My Lips' is a fantastic effort by the girl who accompanied Spiller on last year's hit 'If this Ain't Love'.

It starts with the current smash 'Take Me Home', an upbeat and catchy track, followed by the excellent 'Lover' which has a really strong beat. This has some really magical chords which have almost an eerie or dream quality.

'Move This Mountain' is really chilled, while the funky 'Murder on the Dancefloor' is not half as scary as it sounds. In fact this threatening title refers to SEB asking the DJ not to 'kill the groove'.

'Sparkle' has a great beat and is quite original, while 'Final Move' is quite a nice ballad with strong vocals.

The album has a boring phase with 'I believe', 'Leave the others alone' and 'By Chance', although picks up with the upbeat 'The Universe is You'.

'Is it any wonder' is a beautiful ballad with well-thought lyrics - probably my favourite on the album - while the final track, 'Everything falls into place', closes the album with a funky twist.
