Cinema Review

DURING the last hundred years, jousting movies have cropped up from time to time.

However, most of them are known to be dull and boring. A Knight's Tale, has been made to ignore the historical facts and deliver a thrill ride for the young generation.

William is a young man who has always dreamed of becoming a knight. When he comes across a dead knight, he steals his armour and replaces him in competitions for the money. Jousting soon becomes a passion for him as he meets the love of his life, a princess.

Along come the battles, the baddies and everything else. With the crowds singing We will Rock You by Queen, it looked as if this was going to be a complete mess of a picture, but to be fair, it wasn't bad.

A Knight's Tale is designed for just one thing - entertainment. There is nothing wrong with repeating the same old thing over and over again. As long as you do it well and the audience goes home happy then you can't go wrong. Isn't that what it's all about Jonathan Ross?

This is not exactly a film I would add to my video collection but it will easily entertain audiences across the world. The jokes may not be hilarious but it has a tight narrative and all attempts to make a few emotional scenes are quite good.

Heath Ledger plays the character of William with ease and with his performance in The Patriot under his belt too, he may be a household name in the next two years.

The script is a bit repetitive and the style can be a bit irritating but great performances from Ledger and Mark Addy keeps A Knight's Tale on the ground.

It's nice to see original films like The Matrix and Pulp Fiction now and again but films are about entertainment and A Knight's Tale certainly does entertain.
