Scouts open doors for awareness week

PENARTH and District Scouts open their doors from Saturday for Scouting Awareness Week.

Varied public activities will take place to show what's on offer for the youth of the district, which includes Dinas Powys, Llandough and Sully.

A Scout group may have a Beaver Scout colony (6 to 8 years), a Scout troop (10 to 15-and-a-half) and a Venture Scout Unit(15-and-a-half to 20). During the week, September 29 - October 6, activities will include: * The 2nd Penarth (Holy Nativity) Scout Group looking for more members from Cogan.

* The 5th Penarth (Elfed Ave United Church) Beaver Scout Colony are making pin badges to wear to school to advertise the colony.

* The 6th Penarth (Trinity Methodist) Scout and Guide group have organised a 'Bring a Friend' evening (Friday, October 5) and their Venture Scout Unit are holding a sponsored 'Jail Break'.

* The 94th Penarth (Stanwell Road Baptist) Guide and Scout Group holds a 'Bring a Friend' evening on Tuesday, October 2.

* The 1st Lower Penarth are planning an open day at Brockhill Community Centre.

* The District Scouts are participating in a 'Monopoly Run' around Penarth from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, October 6.

Getting involved is extremely rewarding. For example, one Penarth Scout, Jerome Dorman of the 6th Penarth group, will attend the next World Scout Jamboree in Thailand over the Christmas and New Year of 2002/2003.
