Butterfly Tea lifts Ty Hafan funds

BUTTERFLY pizzas, soups and fish sashimi were just some of the dishes at a special tea party held for Ty Hafan this week.

The event on Sunday, dubbed the Butterfly Tea Party, took place at Mermaid Quay which has chosen the Sully children's hospice as its nominated charity this year.

The butterfly is the shared emblem of children's hospices throughout Wales, England and Scotland and represents the fragile beauty and short life of the children who use Ty Hafan and other such centres.

The event marked the launch of fund-raising and was supported by the complex's shops, restaurants and bars.

Special dishes included Butterfly ice cream at Cadwaladers, chicken Butterfly curry at Cafe Naz, Butterfly pizza at De:aLto, and Butterfly fish sashimi at Turquoise.

Some businesses donated prizes for a raffle, including £100 worth of vouchers for Signor Valentino and a meal for two with wine at Bar 38.

Leigh-Ann Hill, corporate and trust officer for Ty Hafan, said: "It was a really good day despite the bad weather. We had fireworks at 8.30pm and it dried up, and people came to Mermaid Quay or out of the restaurants to watch.

"I think people enjoyed themselves. They were really lovely. There were about ten Ty Hafan staff, including volunteers there, as well as our mascots Dewi and Delilah the dragons. It was a great day."

Graeme Newman, director of Sovereign Land which developed Mermaid Quay, said: "We are delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause and look forward to providing ongoing support to Ty Hafan.

"The Butterfly Tea Party was a fantastic opportunity for people to go along and enjoy all the wonderful facilities at Mermaid Quay, while also contributing to Ty Hafan."
