Student four will see Ninja master

FOUR Ninjutsu students from Penarth will train in Madrid with the 34th Ninja Grandmaster, Dr Masaaki Hatsumi, next week.

The students from the Sleeping Dragon Dojo, part of The Academy UK at St Paul's Martial Arts Centre in Arcot Street, are now preparing for this rare opportunity.

Principle instructor and former bodyguard Marc Moor, his girlfriend and Dojo organiser Michelle Murray, Paul Grainger and Juliet Gale will represent Penarth and the Cardiff area in the three day training session.

For all except Marc, it will be the first time they will have witnessed seeing the 70-year-old Grandmaster in action.

Usually students either have to travel to Japan to see him. Up to 800 Ninja students from all over the world will gather in Spain for the experience.

Marc, a direct student of the Grandmaster, is hoping to receive his sixth Dan personally from Dr Hatsumi.

Michelle, the senior female student in The Academy UK, said: "I'm particularly looking forward to seeing the Grandmaster and meeting fellow students from around the world.

"Paul and Juliet, who only started training in February when the Penarth centre of excellence formed, are both very excited by the prospect."

She added: "For both Paul and Juliet and others in The Academy UK, Ninjutsu has proven to be a total self improvement programme. Many parents and teachers and adults are reaping the rewards."

Marc formed The Academy UK in June last year. He now runs training groups in Cheltenham, Gloucester, Swindon, and Penarth.

Penarth's Sleeping Dragon Dojo has adult and junior members and trains every Tuesday and Thursday.
