Pupils are rewarded

PENARTH pupils who have nagged their parents, grandparents and family into shopping at Tesco so they could collect the vouchers for their school equipment were rewarded last week.

Pupils from the four schools who took part in this year's 'Computers for Schools' scheme joined Alun Michael, MP, at the Penarth Tesco's, Western Road on Friday October 5.

He presented representatives from the schools with their computers for their schools and their certificates.

The schools that took part this year were Llandough Primary, St Joseph's Primary, Ysgol Erw'r Delyn and Stanwell Comprehensive.

Since Tesco Computers for Schools began in 1992, over £70 million worth of computer equipment has been claimed by schools around Britain. More than 25,000 schools are registered to take part in the scheme, which is staggeringly over half of all the schools in the UK.

This year alone, 1,500 new schools registered to take part in what has become the longest ever running UK schools promotion.

A Tesco spokesman said: "Since we started this scheme, we have given out over 4,000 computers to schools around the UK. Apart from the computers themselves, we have given away over 66,000 items of computer related equipment. We are always pleased with the response from local schools, and we like to support our local community in this way.

Schools have a hard job budgeting for new equipment, and to be able to help them out in such a practical manner is great. We look forward to continuing to do so in the years to come."
