TWO Penarth charities have been chosen to receive the benefits from this year's Mayor's coffee morning.
The Penarth and District Stroke Support Group and the Home Access Trust have been chosen by Mayor Carole Clifford as the two worthy causes that will be supported by a coffee morning and table top sale that will be taking place in the Paget Rooms on Friday October 19. The doors open at 10.30am and the event goes on until 12 noon.
Cllr Clifford said: "These two charities do an awful lot of good, and I think that if the community has the chance to show our support and appreciation, this is the best time."
The Penarth and District Stroke Support Group meet every first and third Thursday of the month in Trinity Church, Woodland Place. Cllr Clifford said: "Many people suffer in silence. This group helps them know that there are others in the same position, and that they are not alone."
The Home Access Trust in the Tabernacle Church, Plassey Street helps those in accommodation crisis. Cllr Clifford added: "This charity was established in 1996, but few people have heard of it. They have just one part-time paid worker, but people under threat of homelessness can go to them for assistance."
Many other support groups have already lent their weight behind the event. Paula Fowler booked a table for the Carers UK, Vale of Glamorgan Branch, and is encouraging other people to take part. She said: "We wish the Mayor every success in this event."
Cllr Clifford added: "I am sure our community will want to come along to learn more about the work they do, to enjoy the social occasion and hopefully raise much needed funds."
To book a table at £10, please call the Town Mayor Carol Clifford on Penarth 029 2030 7911.
