PENARTH cancer hospice Holme Tower is set to benefit thanks to an infamous driver and local residents.
Sully Indoor Bowls Club raised £1,025 for the centre, while Maureen Rees, of learner driver fame, helped launch Marie Curie Cancer Care's Make a Will Week roadshow, which runs until tomorrow, October 19.
The bowls club held a charity night on September 29 with an auction and raffle.
The auction was carried out by Norman Pereira who also provided entertainment on his electric keyboard.
Organisers are grateful to local businesses for donating prizes and to Barry Town Football Club for giving signed football shirts for auction.
A cheque was presented to Sheila Kenniford at Holme Tower by Jean Ingram, Linda Woodcock, Vilma Ireson and Val Morgan of the Social Committee.
Just days later Maureen Rees urged the public to make use of Marie Curie's special will roadshow.
It is currently visiting post offices and supermarkets to give out legacy information and explain the work of the charity.
Solicitors are offering a discounted will-writing service to anyone making a donation to charity, representing a saving of up to £25.
Maureen said: "Marie Curie helps more than 550 local people with cancer each year through its free home nursing service and the specialist care available at the Marie Curie hospice in Penarth.
"More than one third of funding needed for these vital services comes from people who have left money to Marie Curie. This is a wonderful way to show your support and help cancer patients and their families in the future."
Marie Curie/Clinton Cards Nurse of the Year for Wales, Dawn Desbois, added: "We're indebted to people who have left legacies to Marie Curie. These people are not millionaires, they are ordinary individuals who have enabled us to help thousands of local people."
