PENARTH'S 25th Fireworks Fiesta on Monday was a success, raising £2,000 for local charities.
The event at the Athletic Field attracted by more than 2,500 people and included a guy competition as well as the fireworks display.
Organised by the local Rotary, Round Table and rugby club, £2,500 was spent on the glittering array of fireworks which delighted the audience.
James Carter, chairman of the Fireworks Fiesta committee and past president of the Rotary Club, said: "It was excellent. We were very lucky with the weather, and were also pleased that so many people turned up on a Monday night - not the most popular day of the week for an event such as this.
"We were well supported by the local police, fire service, St John Ambulance and Raynet."
Penarth mayor Carole Clifford helped judge the guy competition.
It was won by Michael Miel's original-looking guy, with a head made out of a spooky carved pumpkin. In second place was Ruth Garner and in third Eleanor Davies.
Mr Carter said: "We were impressed with the standard of the guys. It's always a popular part of the proceedings."
Although the £2,000 raised will go to local charities, Mr Carter said this was not the only aim.
He said: "It's really a community service project. You can't buy many fireworks these days for £25 for your back garden.
"Everyone was pleased with how the night went, that it went without any mishaps. We hope everyone enjoyed it and will come again next year."
