Disabled woman's hallowe'en hell

A FURIOUS Penarth resident has hit out at Hallo-we'en festivities after her house was attacked with eggs and flour.

The woman, who is 'seriously disabled' and asthmatic and does not want to be named, labelled youngsters involved in such activities as "infantile".

It follows a Hallowe'en in Penarth and the Vale which saw hundreds of pounds worth of fireworks and eggs confiscated by local police.

The woman said: "Could someone please explain to me why they get so much pleasure from using an American 'celebration' to throw eggs and/or flour at houses, cars or any moving objects?

"This happened to me and I cannot understand why. I am seriously disabled and if I had been alone in my house, such abuse could easily have lead to a life-threatening asthma attack. As it happens, I wasn't alone, but that doesn't excuse what was done."

She added: "As bad as the eggs and flour are the fireworks. As far as I can remember, Bonfire Night is on November 5, so why do the fireworks seem to start at the beginning of October and go on until Christmas?

"I'm all for displays, but why do we insist on putting what are, after all, explosives, in the hands of children who can't even read a calendar?"

The woman added that there were no excuses for such behaviour.

She said: "And for all those 'bleeding heart liberal' types who say that it's just 'for the children' and they should have their fun, they should remember that it's the children who are doing the damage, and mostly children who get injured."
