A HORROR film with two teens the victims is not original. A horror film that grabs you from start to finish despite being unoriginal can be forgiven.
But a horror film which grabs from the start and finishes dreadfully cannot be forgiven. Such is Jeepers Creepers.
Driving home from college, Trish and Darryl are nearly run off the road by a guy in an old truck. The truck disappears and later on they drive past an old church and see it parked outside. They see the man dump some bodies. They investigate and find about 500 mutilated corpses. The murderer is not a man but a monster and it tries to track them down and kill them.
Nearly every minute is entertaining but for some reason the screen goes black and the words 'Directed by Victor Salva' are printed.
This is the type of film which lets you forget about your life and have a great time, but here you have to think. Either you have been abducted by aliens and returned at the end of the film or this is a case of terrible screenwriting.
Terrible screenwriting seems more likely. The film is 120 minutes long but seems like only 90.
Superbly directed by Salva and perfectly acted out by Gina Phillips and Justin Long, this could have been something special as it does everything a good horror film should do.
It's daft, but all horrors films are. An interesting story and a tight script keep the film together. Brilliant creature design and a simple narrative helps development but the ending is so disappointing.
