Hopes run high for sports facilities

DINAS Powys' rugby, football and cricket teams may soon benefit if plans for changing facilities at Bryn y Don go ahead.

The Vale Council has agreed to support a bid to bring changing rooms to the ground, which would also see a cricket pavilion built.

Dinas Powys Plaid Cymru councillor Chris Franks said he was delighted to see the progress.

He said: "Along with my colleagues we have been working with representatives of the various clubs to convince the council of the need to respond to the growing sporting demands in this part of the Vale.

"All to often home matches cannot be played at Parc Bryn y Don. Also, both the local football and rugby clubs are achieving significant success on the pitch."

According to Cllr Franks, the council has now agreed to consult with the local community and to produce a feasibility study.

The council will have to provide a detailed estimate of costs and sources of finance. He said: "The Vale believes that such facilities will help to attract youngsters to participate in well-organised team sports."

Cllr Franks' colleague on the council, Cllr Chris Williams, also spoke of his full support for the project.

He said: "Although all such schemes take a long time to achieve, this is a significant move in the right direction."
