Gymnasts achieve squad status

FOLLOWING trials at the Welsh Institute of Sport, five young ladies from Penarth Gymnastics Club have gained places in Welsh National Squads.

Results from the Welsh Championships were also taken into consideration and it was at these that our young locals really made their mark.

Twelve-year-old Lucy Williams, Alice John (aged 11) and Elinor Lewis (aged 10) are in the Junior Elite Squad whilst Rhiannon Morris, aged 8, and Finlay Haswell, who is only seven, have been promoted to the Welsh Preparation Squad.

All training takes place under the supervision of the two national coaches and the Bulgarian choreographer with Penarth coach Mrs Lesley McJennett assisting at all sessions.

Two more Penarth members are working towards inclusion in the women's artistic elite squad. With ten special needs members also with National Squad status the club can be justly proud of its standing in the sport.
