A special song for Christmas

A PENARTH songwriter has written a Christmas carol which she is offering to local organisations and groups for use free of charge.

Jeanie Jones, accompanist with the Cogan Coronation Choir, has written It's Christmas - I'm Coming Home especially for local people to use in performances.

Mrs Jones, who has previously worked with Penarth Male Voice Choir, says she is not looking to gain from the carol, which she also wrote the music for.

She said: "I don't want anything for this - I'm not thinking I'm going to gain. "I've written Christmas songs for people over the last few years.

"Last year I thought it would be nice to share it, and so I wrote It's Christmas - I'm Coming Home in an easy piano arrangement. Anyone who's only just started piano could play this."

She added: "It can be used for whatever charity people want to use it for. I just want to share it."

The carol is regularly used by Cogan Coronation Choir at performances across the town and beyond. There are two versions - one a popular version for use in various concerts, and the other a religious version used mostly in churches.

Irish tenor Joe Sheehan sings it, accompanied by Mrs Jones on piano. Lyrics include "Look there, see Father Christmas, His silver grotto filled with lots of new toys, Bearded and dressed in scarlet, He hears the wishes of the eager little girls and boys."

If you would like to see the songs being performed, the choir will be appearing at Oak Court, Penarth on December 13, Picton Court, Porthcawl, on December 18, and Ty Dewi Sant, Penarth, on December 20.
