Glyn gets old folk back on the road

HOUSEBOUND Dinas Powys residents are mobile again thanks to the Christmas spirit of a Penarth businessman.

As reported in the Penarth Times on December 6, 70 residents had been left stranded after thieves ripped the windows out of their only transport - a minibus run by Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern.

The white Ford Transit van, which took residents to meetings, shopping to Tesco and more, was attacked on November 24 while it was parked at St Mary's Church car park, its usual spot.

The two rear windows were stolen together with their rubber seals, and the quarter light on the driver's side was also taken.

Patricia Marsh, co-ordinator of DPVC, said: "It's really irres-ponsible. "So many people can't get out unless they've got the minibus.

"People were due to go to Tesco on the day it happened, and I had to ring everybody to tell them they couldn't go. For some people, the trip to Tesco is the only time they get outside their front door."

But now the elderly can get out again, thanks to Glyn Sadler of Llandough Service Station, who is currently fixing the charity's vehicle.

He has given them his own minibus until theirs is fixed.

He said: "I've been helping them out for 15 years, fixing vehicles, and I just happened to be in the situation this time where I could do something for them.

"We've all got to get old, haven't we? I just help people out if I can."

Mr Sadler is currently waiting for new glass to be delivered by the manufacturer, following which he can complete the work on the minibus.

Patricia Marsh said: "We've started the services already, thanks to Mr Sadler.

"We are very grateful to him for lending us the minibus. It was very kind."
