VALE OF Glamorgan Council chairman, Cllr Maurice Nugent is following in the footsteps of recent predecessors by hosting a special sponsored swim.
To be held at the Barry Leisure Centre on Sunday, February 10, between 12 noon and 6pm, the event is being organised in support of MacMillan Cancer Relief.
Launching an appeal for involvement from individuals and teams of up to 10 involving families, friends, businesses and organisations, Cllr Nugent said: "Similar events over the last two years have been enormous fun and raised around £13,000 for this marvellous Cowbridge-based charity which aims to give people with cancer and their families the best information, treatment and care available.
"MacMillan nurses are a vital part of this work and funds raised from the sponsored swim will go towards supporting the work of one of these nurses in the Vale and Cardiff area."
Helping to launch the appeal for participants was former diving star Bobby Morgan, who is a long-time supporter of the event.
He said: "I've been delighted to be involved with this event over the last couple of years. It's a great opportunity for people to have a bit of extra exercise, to introduce children to swimming and, of course, to help a very worthwhile cause. Participants don't need to be champion swimmers, they just swim to their own limits."
