Warning issued for arcade doors

"DANGEROUS" glass doors at the Windsor Arcade must be changed immediately to avoid possible accidents.

This is the view of Penarth AM Lorraine Barrett, who believes people will walk into the doors at either end of the arcade, because they are not visible enough and are therefore a danger.

The doors were fitted last year by Andton Properties, owners of the arcade.

They were put in to reduce the wind blowing through the arcade and to allow shopkeepers to put stock outside their own entrances.

But Mrs Barrett said: "When I first saw the doors I thought they were dangerous and I almost walked into them myself.

"In this day and age, I would have thought companies would be more responsive to the needs to the elderly, infirm and those with visual impairments."

Mrs Barrett added: "Speaking at a church group meeting in Penarth recently, I was told by several of the church members that they not only thought the doors dangerous, but that they had actually walked into the doors themselves.

"For this reason, I am calling on the owners of the arcade to either remove them and replace them with more suitable doors, or make the doors more visible."

Andton Properties declined to comment at this stage.
