What is going on?

FRUSTRATED residents at the Harbour View estate have again demanded information on their unclear futures.

The angry locals say they are fed up of being "kept in the dark" by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, which has earmarked the site for redevelopment.

Furious pensioner Don Goodrich, 68, of Prince Charles Court, said: "The last I heard was five years ago, when the council offered me £19,000.

"They said they'd pay for removal and give me ten percent extra for inconvenience. But I spoke to a surveyor, who said the view of Cardiff Bay alone was worth £29,000."

"If they offered me £50,000 I'd be out of here tomorrow.

"But I don't think I'd fancy looking at someone else's back wall after having this view of the bay for 15 years."

He added: "I'm 68. By the time they do anything, it's going to be too late to benefit me."

A report on the site is due and local councillors and the Alexandra Ward Residents' Associa-tion are eager for its release.

But Alwyn Evans, of Penarth Plaid Cymru, said: "We've the ridiculous situation that a report which should have been published last April still has only been seen by officers.

"It's just talking about options. I honestly think the Ombudsman should be called in."

He added: "All this time, council house allocation in Penarth is at a stop, as priority has to be given to Harbour View residents."

Cllr Maureen Kelly Owen has written to the council demanding to know when the report will be released.

She said: "Local residents are naturally extremely impatient and anxious to know now, with more certainty, what the council's vision for the whole area will mean for them in terms of physical impact, housing and timescale."

An authority spokesman said: "There's nothing going on with Harbour View. We're currently working with families on the estate."
