ENTHUSIASTIC youngsters from a popular Penarth school are to benefit from extra cash after helping to relaunch a local supermarket.
Pupils from St Joseph's RC Primary School, Sully Road, took on the responsibility of unveiling the Co-op's new look supermarket on Windsor Road following a £90,000 revamp.
As a reward and to mark the occasion, store manager Craig Elliott presented the four youngsters with £100 for their school.
Schoolchildren Niall Curtin, Emily Curtin, Lauren Hughes and Aodhan Teaghe took on star status as they performed the ribbon cutting ceremony in front of gathered staff.
He said: "As a community retailer the Co-op believes it is important for the community to be involved in our special events and we were delighted that our local school participated in the opening."
Mr Elliott added: "The Penarth Co-op provides a much valued service for the community and I am delighted we can now provide enhanced facilities."
The store has been converted to the Co-op's new Welcome format which involves a modern shopping environment and a wide choice of goods. This is just the latest boost for the school. Recently, pupils were set to benefit from a £5,000 boost for their breakfast club.
The AMP and Kids Club Network funding was designed to allow an additional playworker to be employed, helping to create an extra eight out of school childcare places, on top of the 24-30 places already provided.
