Do you have time to help?

A DINAS Powys charity is organising a volunteering fair, with information on how you can get involved.

Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern (DPVC) will be hosting a Volunteering Information Fair at the Parish Hall, Britway Road, on Friday, March 22, from 2pm until 7pm.

The event will include lots of displays and discussions, as well as a children's corner.

Groups attending include the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme, Dinas Powys Library, Dinas Powys Women's Institute, Neighbourhood Watch, Parent and Toddlers, NCH, Care and Repair in the Vale, the Fire Service, the Vale Volunteer Bureau, Crossroads, Sport Group, the Vale Council for Voluntary Services and Eileen Matts, warden of Hanover Court, who will give information on sheltered housing.

Pat Marsh, co-ordinator of DPVC, said: "There will be lots of people there, including a mobile hairdresser for people stuck in their homes. We'll have a cooking-for-one demonstration, while local firefighters will give a talk.

"We're hoping to have a talk on the history of Dinas Powys in the evening."

She said: "The main aim is to get volunteers for ourselves and other organisations and to give people an idea what goes on in the parish and how they can help.

"We're all going to get old one day. DPVC provides a minibus to take people to different places and we get people with their own cars to take people around. There are so many areas in which volunteers can be used."

People interested in using the services themselves can go along as well, to see what is available.

Mrs Marsh said: "So many people drop off their children to school and don't really have anything to do, other than shopping and housework. Perhaps they feel there's nothing else for them, but they could be doing so much for other people."
