Disenchanted

SEVERAL LOCAL papers have printed the RSPCA's concern that the public are disenchanted with the service they provide as an animal welfare charity.

Apparently we have been ringing the wrong number. Strange, as according to their fundraising leaflet sent out in February, they have received £1,592,673 over the last 12 months, so obviously some are us are awake.

Just a suggestion, but perhaps if the RSPCA bothers to have the national telephone number printed in either the general directory or yellow pages under animal welfare societies the public would not be making erroneous calls to the local shelters. It has also been noted that their 328 inspectors investigated 126,746 complaints last year, which equals out as one inspection per day per inspector - not exactly a heavy workload.

Was yet another of our cries for help one of the 1,465, 927 unattended cases remaining?

Twelve of us were involved in trying to rescue a dog over the Christmas period on five separate occasions, out until 2.30am. Despite calls to the national call line we were ignored. Sad to say we were unsuccessful in this rescue and the dog died, but the RSPCA said it was not on their books. In fact, it had been on their books for some six weeks.

The time has come for the RSPCA to hoist up its socks and stop making us as the butt of their inadequacies.
