TWO budding artists from a Penarth school are painting their way to success after winning two separate art competitions.
Ysgol Pen-y-Garth pupils Jessica Chick, 11, and Charlotte Lee, 10, have both won competitions which will result in their artwork being printed in two different calendars.
Jessica's picture, which explains the benefits of eating a healthy diet, will be featured in a calendar produced by the Vale Catering Services in association with Welsh LACA.
The calendar for 2002 will be distributed to all Vale schools and Jessica will receive her own personal copy.
Jessica, of Year 6, was presented with her prizes of a mountain bike and helmet by council Vale of Glamorgan Council chairman Cllr Maurice Nugent at the Civic Offices in Barry.
Charlotte Lee's artwork will also represent a month of the year in the Race Equality First calendar on the theme of Race Equality - Uniting Our World.
Charlotte, of Year 5, also attended a presentation at the Civic Offices where Cllr Nugent presented her with £50 each in book and music tokens. Paul James, of Julian Hodge Bank which sponsored the competition, also presented Charlotte with a cheque for £150 from the bank.
A spokesman for their school said: "Both girls are to be congratulated for their efforts."
