EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of March 18, 1977:

Paul Loveless, 14, of Purcell Road, Penarth, has won through to his third British Schoolboys' Boxing Championship.

The poem selected by the SE Wales Arts Association for their "Dial-a-Poem" service next week is by Wendy Becton, of St David's Crescent, Penarth.

Mr Elfyn Scourfield, assistant curator at St Fagan's and chairman of Sully History Society, spoke on the theme of early 19th century farming and the rural customs of agricultural communities in South Wales at the meeting of Penarth District Local History Society.

A local firm of estate agents say that a property worth £7,750 at present may be worth £140,000 in 30 years time.

Mrs Marjorie Prothero of the Barry Club told the discussion group of the Penarth Business and Professional Women's Club of her impressions and experiences on a recent three week stay near Johannesburg, South Africa.

Penarth Oxfam is taking part in the Oxfam Bookquake being organised in Cardiff at the end of the month, and would be very grateful for all books which Penarth people can give.

President of Park Table Tennis Club, Penarth, Mr Jim Matthews, presented a trophy to club champion, Bob Bishop, at the finals night held at the Marconi Club last Friday.

There was a large audience in St Alma's School Hall on March 9, to hear Mrs Hilary Dunn speak on Fashion and Fabrics.

The Penarth Ladies' Choir with their musical director Margaret Morgans and accompanist Dorothy Prigg, gave a concert at the Bishop of Llandaff School on St David's Day.
