Nurse wins cahs for cancer centre

PENARTH resident Dawn Desbois - Marie Curie's Nurse of the Year for Wales - has bagged £1,000 for the Holme Tower.

Dawn took part in a special 'Grab for a Million Pounds' promotion held by Co-op 99 tea in Manchester and picked a prize of a grand to go straight to the Penarth cancer care centre.

Dawn attended the prize draw with five fellow Marie Curie Nurses from around the country and four finalists who had entered the Co-op 99 Tea on pack promotion.

Each person was invited to 'grab' for the winning £1 million prize and was guaranteed a prize of £1,000.

Dawn told the Times: "This is fantastic news. I'm delighted to have picked this prize as it's a real boost to our charity, especially as it's our Marie Curie Daffodil Campaign this month."

Dawn added: "We're all extremely grateful to Co-op 99 Tea for their generosity and for giving us this once in a lifetime chance.

"This win means that Marie Curie will be able to reach even more people with cancer and their families through its nationwide home nursing service, ten hospices and research."

Viv Cooper, Holme Tower centre manager, said: "I'm delighted for the patients and their families. Dawn has been an excellent ambassador for Marie Curie Cancer Care."

Co-op 99 Tea invited Marie Curie Cancer Care to take part in the prize draw following the success of its 'Co-op Caring Together' staff fund-raising campaign, which raised a total of more than £680,000 for the charity.
