Street scandal

CAN SOMEBODY in the community of the Vale explain about the "insurance" of street parties? I read with interest of the lady in last week's edition who applied to have her street closed off for the celebrations.

It seemed the reply was the street would be closed free of charge, but this "insurance" would cost between £300 and £800.

As an organiser of previous street celebrations, there never has been a charge to close off any street.

I would like to know what the insurance covers, why such a wide margin of figures, who receives the money, what happens if the street party gets rained off.

Previous street celebrations have been a huge success. All I can suggest is somebody is trying to kill the community spirit in Penarth.

How can anyone raise this kind of money before raising money for the actual party? Perhaps, through your paper, the council could explain.
