Mums take a plunge for aid

THREE Dinas mums are gathering up their Dutch courage for a 10,000ft parachute jump in aid of the National Asthma Campaign.

Plucky Helen Dursley, Denise Morgan and Juliet Richards will travel to Pembrey airship in June to take part in tandem skydives.

The trio, who met four years ago a post-natal group in the village, now have to raise £350 each to take part.

Helen, who has two children Joseph, 4, and Morgan, 2, introduced her friends to the scheme after seeing a poster at Bro Taf Health Authority where she works.

She said: "We will free-fall at 120mph, but it's all with an instructor who is in control of the jump. I think asthma affects most people's families and it is important to fund research."

The National Asthma Campaign is looking for 500 people to skydive and raise funds this year.

Helen, who has never done anything like it before, said: "Everyone tells you that once you've had children you lose the will to do anything exciting. Well I haven't."

Juliet, a physiotherapist with two children, Edward, 4, and Eleanor, 2, said: "I've done a bungee jump above water in New Zealand, but never a parachute jump."

Housewife Denise, of Windyridge, who also has two children, Amy, 4, and Luke, seven months, said: "I think it's going to be fantastic."

The women are hoping to go out this weekend to drum up some support at local pubs. They will then target businesses.
