Take a walk

I AM WRITING to continue the debate on making Penarth attractive to shoppers and new visitors. I totally agree with earlier writers in that the number of charity shops in Penarth is getting quite out of hand. I support these places but would also like to support local businesses that unfortunately are getting fewer and fewer.

I welcome the opening of Foxy's delicatessen opposite Penarth station and enjoy supporting the small businesses there.

However, I was appalled, while listening to two shoppers in Penarth high street last week, complaining there were no nice shops in Penarth to buy unusual foods! I had to butt in and point out that a new delicatessen had just opened, only to be told they felt it was too far to walk!

I am sure that if these businesses had been able to afford the rent and rates that the high street are asking then they might well be in the place of the charity shops.

I urge you Penarth shoppers to take a walk to the other end of town and see for yourself what you can actually buy in Penarth. If the walk is really too far, they offer a home delivery service.
