*: President of Penarth and District Chamber of Trade, Mr William Bridge, presented a cheque to Mrs D Daly, Chairman of the South Wales Society of Autistic Children, with a second cheque raised by the chamber.
*: Penarth Town Councillors have protested at the number of shops in the town centre which are being converted into offices.
*: Sixteen-year-old Steve Gosling, of Pembroke Terrace, Penarth, has qualified to play in two Penarth and District Indoor Bowls Finals.
*: Guardsman Paul Burtonshaw, of Penarth, recently passed out at the Guards Depot. Paul a former pupil of St Cyres Comprehensive School, who plays football and runs cross country, joined the Welsh Guards eight months ago.
*: Furniture valued at £1,000 was stolen from a lorry parked at the Llandough trading estate and a Yale padlock was taken from a furniture van parked nearby, last week.
*: Ladies of the Social Committee served up sausages and beans at St Cyres PTA, Wild West Barn Dance held at the Parish Hall, Dinas Powis, last Friday.

*: Penarth Town Councillors have expressed horror at what was described as 'a horrendous plan' to redevelop the multi- storey car park at the Esplanade to provide luxury flats and offices.
*: Ninety mothers throughout Wales and the Marches had an early Mother's Day surprise when they collected their child benefit last week. A spring bouquet was presented to the first ten mums to collect their child benefit payments at nine offices scattered throughout Wales and the Marches, as part of a nationwide tribute by Post Office Counters Ltd.
*: Mrs Joy Matthews welcomed members to last week's meeting of the Penarth WRVS Tuesday Afternoon Club.
*: Penarth Rotarians would like to congratulate their 'Youth Speaks' winning Stanwell team for their further success at area semi-final level. *: Claire Boot, of 7L at Stanwell School raised £10 for Oxfam by making and selling attractive 'frog cakes'.
*: Jugglers Owen James, Martin Wookey and Simon Pedwell took part in 'Circus Parade' at the Penarth Gang Show, staged at the Paget Rooms last week.
