Scouts are back where they belong

A PENARTH scout group is once again meeting at its own headquarters 12 months after it was declared unsafe.

The boys of 5th Penarth were left without a meeting place when their building, behind Elfed Avenue Church, was declared unsafe for structural and roofing reasons.

But now, thanks to the fund-raising efforts of the parents committee, they are back where they belong.

After just six months the committee had raised sufficient cash to repair the building and to buy new furnishings.

To commemorate the re-opening of the hall, the Scouts recently held a cheese and wine evening, inviting guests and friends of the group to celebrate.

District commissioner, Dr Nic Thomas, himself a former 5th Penarth leader, was impressed with the work and said the interior was barely recognisable.

Committee chairman Noelle Bryant thanked all those involved for their support, especially the organisations and individuals who made donations.

The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by town mayor Cllr Carole Clifford.

She praised the team for having accomplished the work in such a short time and commended the members of the Penarth Scout District as a whole for their good work in the town.
