Cinema Review: Blade 2

Blade 2 (18)

FAST, furious and full of vampires, this is the premise for the new feature film from New Line Cinema.

Blade 2 (18) is a continuation from the first movie (but it does have a catch up montage at the beginning).

Wesley Snipes plays Blade, a mixture of half-human/half vampire, who can go out in the daylight. His personal mission is to kill all other vampires and protect the human race.

But his sworn enemy, the vampire council, need his help to destroy something that is even more deadly.

A new kind of vampire has somehow been created, with super human strength and incredible dexterity. He is preying on other vampires, and once they are exhausted he will start feeding off the human race, so Blade has no choice but to team up with his nemesis.

Former 80's pop idol Luke Goss, of Bros fame, plays Normak. He is the carrier for the new strain of faster, and more deadly vampires.

But Blade's uneasy alliance with the council plays a secondary plot line as he attempts to track the creature that could wipe out vampires and humans alike.

Blade 2 is an action packed adventure that's filled with extraordinary special effects and some ultra fast moving fight scenes, which were synonymous with the original movie.

Even though the overall length of the film runs a little longer than it really needed to, this can be forgiven as it blends in a pumping soundtrack with a good and unique plot.

Once again Wesley Snipes does the fanged comic book hero justice.

Other noteworthy performances are given by Kris Kristofferson who reprises his role as Whistler and newcomer Leonar Varela who also excels as Nyssa, a member of the Bloodpack.
