Parties can go on

A PENARTH woman may be able to throw a Golden Jubilee celebration party after all, thanks to the Penarth Times.

We recently reported how frustrated grandmother Christine Watts, 50, of Catkin Drive, had been told by the Vale of Glamorgan Council that insuring a party could cost up to £800.

She said: "I'm not in a position financially to do that, none of us are, so consequently we're not doing anything. If it wasn't for insurance, we would have done something."

But this week Ben Mott, insurance adviser at Penarth's R W Mott and Partner Insurance Brokers, said his firm could provide much lower prices for Mrs Watts.

He heard of Mrs Watts' plight when insurance clerk Ann Jenkins read the Penarth Times. Mr Mott said: "Our insurance rates start from as little as £52 for 250 people. It's a special policy for the Golden Jubilee celebrations, exclusive to ourselves.

"It gives public liability of £1 million, £2 million or £5 million, depending on how many people are expected to attend and how much premium you pay."

He added: "We haven't had any inquiries yet, but really it's simple enough to do and easy to fill in. We can offer the people of Penarth a policy that's cheap and will cover them for any eventuality."

Mrs Watts had planned to throw a party, with the help of other neighbours, for up to 30 children and grandchildren, as well as adults. Her plans were foiled when she was told how expensive it could be.

But after the Penarth Times contacted Mrs Watts to tell her about Mr Mott's offer, she said: "This is good news. If anyone is interested we might be able to go ahead with it. But no-one could have afforded £800.

"However, the thing is, it's so near the day I don't know who would have time to sort it all out.

"We'd have to go round all the houses and collect it. But when I see my neighbours, I'll definitely mention it."
