PENARTHIANS could be celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee after all thanks to an offer of help from the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The authority has pledged to support the community, saying it will pay for street and road closures and public liability insurance and will give financial support to certain events.
The move comes after weeks of uncertainty during which Penarth residents have expressed worries over the costs of these elements. However, there is a catch: applications for the funding must be in by next Friday, April 26.
Regarding street and road closures, the council said: "If you intend to hold parties that are situated wholly or party on the public highway, permission is required from the Authority.
"The council will consider applications from organisers for parties to be held on Monday, June 3 between the hours of 2pm and 10pm."
The council will pay for legal and advertising costs and fund basic public liability insurance for approved applications.
Additionally, grants may be given to events organised by Community Councils, Volun-tary Groups and Residents Associations, with applicat-ions judged on merit.
A spokesman for the authority said: "The council is keen to support celebrations for the Queen's Golden Jubilee and is offering financial support towards road closures for street parties.
"We are very encouraged by the number of applications received so far."
All applications should be sent to Robert Little, Head of Visible Services, Vale of Glamorgan Council, The Alps, Wenvoe, CF5 6AA, or phone 2067 3101 for more details on funding.
