CD Review

EVERYBODY has heard the names Peggy Lee, Dusty Springfield and Erma Franklin - but not everybody has heard them sing, especially youngsters.

Now a brilliant new album Lady sings the blues is doing its bit in reawakening Blues and introducing the genre to younger people.

It kicks off with Peggy Lee's sultry Fever, followed by Julie London's Cry Me A River. Dusty Springfield adds to the magic with The Look Of Love, while Erma Franklin is featured with the breathtaking Piece Of My Heart.

Aretha Franklin stars with Today I Sing The Blues while Sarah Vaughan sings Black Coffee. Erma Thomas belts out I've Been Loving You Too Long while Judy Clay and William Bell perform Private Number.

CD2 features the great Fly Me To The Moon by Julie London, Drinking Again by Dinah Washington and A Taste Of Honey by Peggy Lee. Also there is Shirley Brown's Woman To Woman, Dinah Washington's You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You and Billie Holiday's Summertime. Tina Turner also makes an appearance with Night Time Is The Right Time.

This is a great compilation which is very relaxing and reminds you of how powerful music used to be.
