OUTSTANDING St Cyres School sixth-former Tim Naylor will jet off to the USA in September, to study at Harvard University.
Tim, 18, has been awarded a prestigious scholarship of more than $30,000 to study at the impressive Ivy League establishment.
The university received over 19,000 applications for just 1,650 places. It was looking for students with extraordinary academic, extracurricular and personal strengths.
Head boy Tim passed ten GCSEs, all at A*, four subjects at AS level with A grades and is now expecting four A grades in History, English Literature, Government and Politics and Mathematics.
Tim is captain of the first XV and has played rugby for the county and South East Wales. He also skis and coaches the under-11 team at Cogan football club.
At Harvard, Tim will become proficient in a foreign language and study modules in science, mathematics, humanities and social science. At the end of first year, he will choose a subject for his Bachelor of Arts degree. At present, Tim predicts it will be history.
He said: "I'll miss everybody but this scholarship will give me the opportunity to study at one of the best universities in the world and allow me to carry on with a lot of my sporting activities.
"The university is only an hour away from the ski slopes and New England is the main rugby union area in the States.
"It would fantastic if I had the chance to play rugby for Harvard and compete against other sides in the Ivy League."
Tim will visit Harvard in May with brother Andrew and parents David and Ann Naylor.
Brian Lightman, head teacher, said: "Tim is an excellent example of what can be achieved by our pupils."
Hilary Thomas, head of history, added: "I wish him every success and look forward to hearing of the outstanding contribution he will undoubtedly make to Harvard University."
