Sir Raymond Gower MP was last week made a Freeman of the Borough of the Vale of Glamorgan.

Truancy - which has been the cause of concern nationally - is not a problem at Stanwell School, it was said by the headmaster.

A total of 13 candidates will contest the five Penarth seats in the South Glamorgan County Council elections on May 5.

The Reverend J Lloyd Richards, Rector of Dinas Powis, was installed as the new chairman of St Andrew's Major (Dinas Powis) Community Council by the retiring chairman, Cllr Mrs Barbara Jones, at the Council's annual meeting on Monday.

Mr Ivor Spreadbury of Dinas Powis met Cliff Richard to talk over the singer's coming Cardiff Gospel Concert.

Penarth actor David Garfield, of Archer Road, opened the successful Penarth Combined Charities Fair at Stanwell Road Baptist Church Hall recently.

Penarth Town Councillors have refused to relax their policy which restricts memorials in certain parts of Penarth Cemetery headstones only.

A Tory spokesman's press release branding the Town Council's Holiday Festival programme cover design competition 'a massive flop' has been condemned as a 'scurrilous attack'.

Two Dinas Powys boys recently represented St Richard Gwyn RC High School in a chess tournament at Barry YMCA. Daniel Rowles was proud winner of a fine trophy for first place, and David Price came a commendable third. Both boys are pupils in Y8, and are regular players in the St Richard Gwyn Chess Club.
