IT WAS with interest and surprise that I read of Penarth AM Lorraine Barrett's effusive welcome to the 'new' qualification of Welsh Baccalaureate (Penarth Times, April 25).
Not so long ago she was ridiculing the whole concept but now, apparently, "it broadens the horizons of young people at this crucial stage of their education".
The very reason why we in Plaid Cymru (the party of Wales among others) had driven forward this concept.
Now, all of a sudden it's part of New Labour's grand design.
It is a pity that with talk of political inclusivity that Lorraine Barrett could not have candidly admitted her change of heart, her volte-face attributed her enlightened understanding to Plaid Cymru.
Heavens, who knows perhaps Welsh Labour might even start believing in Wales having the unthinkable - the unalienable right of a nation to govern itself.
