THREE MEMBERS of Penarth Lacrosse Club's senior men's field lacrosse squad have been selected at recent trials to play for the National team.
They have also made it through the final cut and will be travelling to Perth, Western Australia to compete in the Men's World Field Lacrosse Championships in July.
Gareth Shumack, 19-year-old club and team captain had made the squad for the fourth year running and will play long stick midi. Currently on his gap year, Shumack worked as the Lacrosse Development Officer in schools in the Vale and Cardiff after the departure of the American LDO last Christmas.
He is now employed at the Penarth Leisure Centre until he continues his education at University this autumn.
Keigo Baba, a Japanese student from Osaka has been with Penarth Club for over two years and is studying Engineering at Cardiff University.
He has been a tremendous asset to the team as a midfielder and will hopefully prove his worth to the National squad in Perth. Keigo will be leaving Penarth at the end of his summer exams and it will be a sad day for all.
David Porter, 27, has been a member of Penarth Club for many years and is another important member of our squad also playing midfield. He was selected last year and played at the European Championships at Penarth last July and has been asked to attend the World Championships as reserve.
Unfortunately work commitments may preclude his availability to travel which will be a shame.
Penarth Club is extremely proud of these players as the quality of players this year competing for places was particularly strong and shows how well the club are progressing.
The club wish these players all the very best in this prestigious world showcase of lacrosse.
