Staff let hair down for hospital kids

LOCAL children suffering from cancer or leukaemia will benefit thanks to accountants who held a "dress down day".

Staff at Broomfield & Alexander's head office in Pentwyn swapped their suits for casual attire to raise money for LATCH, the children's cancer unit based at Llandough Hospital. The special day saw staff entitled to wearing casual clothes in return for a donation to LATCH, the firm's chosen local charity.

The money raised has been used to buy videos and personal CD players for the children to use during their stay in hospital.

Denise Henderson, LATCH co-ordinator, said: "The wide range of facilities and opportunities that LATCH offers young people can only continue thanks to the generosity of fund-raisers.

"The money raised by Broomfield & Alexander will benefit so many children who come to stay here at the hospital for long periods of time."

Robert Preece, a partner at Broomfield & Alexander, said: "We are always keen to support local charities, where possible. The work that LATCH does brings comfort and support to so many children and their families and we are delighted to be able to help such a deserving cause."

LATCH offers hope to children and young people suffering with cancer or leukaemia by providing emotional and practical support for patients, siblings and parents.

The centre offers separate wards for children and adolescents, specialised equipment for diagnostic and treatment purposes and importantly parent accommodation for up to 12 people.

Established in 1912, Broomfield & Alexander is one of the largest independent chartered accountancy firms in Wales with more than 80 employees working from offices across South East Wales.
