'Thank you'

THROUGH your letters page, may we take this opportunity, on behalf of the Penarth and District Stroke Support Group, and of Home Access Trust, to express our thanks to Cllr Carole Clifford.

We appreciate her unstinting efforts, during her term of office, to raise funds for these two local organisations which she adopted as her mayoral charities.

At a presentation last Thursday evening, we were each privileged to receive, on behalf of our Trusts, cheques for £1,600. For the Stroke Support Group, the money raised will be used to enhance the quality of life for those who have suffered a stroke, by providing those welcome extras that can mean so much.

For Home Access, it will secure the furtherance of its work, in seeking to find affordable accommodation, and then to provide support, for those in our community - especially the elderly and families - who find themselves homeless.

Cllr Carole Cifford, supported by her husband, Colin, has worked tirelessly to promote fund-raising events. Coffee mornings, with the hallmark of delicious 'mayoral' chocolate and coffee cakes and the memorable evening of 'Songs by Candlelight', beautifully rendered by the Coronation choir, have all contributed to both enjoyment and financial rewards, and we do thank them for this year of commitment and service to us, and the community of Penarth.
