Penarth Town Council's scheme to convert Kymin House, off Beach Road, into their new offices, had been approved by the Vale Planning Committee.

Inspecting Officer Mr V L Harmer congratulated Sergeant Martin Ford on attaining his President's Badge and Certificate at the 1st Penarth Company Boys' Brigade Open Evening and Presentation of Awards last Friday.

Mrs Moira Thomas was installed as the new chairman of Penarth Ladies' Circle at the 13th annual general meeting, held at the Commodore.

Sir Raymond Gower MP was a visitor to Penarth Conservative Club last Saturday afternoon when he met local Conservative candidates in the South Glamorgan County County Council elections.

Rugby fanatic Mike "Taffy" Jones, whose home is at Penarth, is to undergo Commando training at Plymouth.

St Peter's Church, Dinas Powis, was filled to capacity with Brownies, Cub Scouts, Guides, Scouts and friends representing the movement in Dinas Powis, Llandough and Penarth, to honour St George, Patron Saint of Scouts everywhere.

EXTRACTS from the Penarth Times of May 1, 1992:

Vale Councillors on Monday did a U-turn on a decision to name a Penarth Street (the new private development of St Luke's Avenue as St Bran Court) after a Welsh Saint.

The proposal to create a family centre in the north of Penarth would have an adverse effect on the Conservation Area, claimed the Vale Planning Committee.

Vale Mayor Cllr Haydn Holmes thanked the major sponsors at the launch of Penarth in Bloom competition at the Italian Gardens.

In the Run up to Health Awareness Day tomorrow, in the Parish and Lee Halls, new attractions were finalised.

Managing Director of Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, Mr Brian Charles, gave a helping hand this week to draw attention to the company's lead pipe replacement grant scheme.

Police Constable Stuart Twigg was, on promotion to sergeant, transferred to the police training centre at Cwmbran.
