Problem road

AS A PENARTH resident I wish to share with you my observations on the traffic problems in Westbourne Road, Penarth.

Since the Esplanade has been made into a one-way system, Westbourne Road has become like an off-shoot of Brands Hatch.

It would appear that the speed limit has been increased to 80mph and I fear it is only a matter of time before there is a catastrophic accident.

Twice a day I take my life in my hands attempting to safely drop my grandchildren to and collect them from their childminder in Westbourne Road.

Not only does it take me an average of ten minutes before I am able to open my door, when I do manage to open it, because of the speed of the passing traffic I have approximately 0.3 seconds to get out, shut the door and get onto the pavement.

The alternative being the prospect of myself and car door being hurled into space! Could I, as a citizen of this town suggest three things:

1)That the road is limited to single side parking which would allow the maniacs to have more room in which to practice their racing driver skills. The more manoeuvrability you have at 80mph the safer it must be for pedestrians.

2)A few speed bumps which might discourage the budding Michael Schumachers amongst the population.

3)A few speed camera which may also encourage the less photogenic of drivers to travel at a more leisurely pace.

In the meantime I shall continue to take my life in my hands on a daily basis along with most of the residents in Westbourne Road.
