Graffiti grief

NOT one week seems to pass by any more when you don't hear something about vandalism or crime in Penarth.

Last week's front page reported on vandalism at Elfed Avenue Presbyterian Church, something I find quite sick.

I don't know who is scrawling graffiti across walls, I don't know who is smashing bottles in the parks, but what I do know is it needs to stop now, because it will end up in Penarth being a no-go area for visitors.

Relatives from Scotland came to visit over Easter, and I was so embarrassed to take them through Alexandra Park, which had suffered a major attack of vandalism with benches broken and bottles smashed.

Sometimes I wonder why we pay our rates for public areas, when they just end up getting destroyed.

It's like money down the drain - which, coincidentally, is the same place Penarth's tourist industry is going to end up if we don't watch out.
