MAY I thank Cosmeston country park for its work to replace many stiles in the park with missing gates. These will make it much easier for those of us who are not as agile as we used to be, to have access to the park.

What a pity councillors of the Vale council did not show the same consideration when they agreed to allow the landowner to lock the gate and erect a stile where his land joins that of the Woodland Trust, for whom the public raised a lot of money.

My appeal for a gate there was turned down at the time on the grounds that the land owner required a stock-proof barrier. Why a stile should be more stock-proof than a sturdy gate I have never understood.
