TWO ambitious Penarthians are breaking in their trainers ready to walk the Inca Trail in Peru in aid of local people with cancer.
Financial advisors Morwenna Edwards, 40, and Lee Clarke, 50, of Upper Cosmeston Farm, will undertake the trek in October in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Centre Holme Tower.
Morwenna said: "Marie Curie cared for my mother Mary Edwards for a number of years. She had cancer on and off for 16 years and passed away five years ago in Holme Tower.
"We've never known a more loving, warm and friendly atmosphere in any hospital at any time."
Lee added: "Care really is a new definition with them. They rely on donations, so you can give them money, but really you need to find a way to gear it up.
"If you say you are going to do this trip, which takes a lot of effort, you will get sponsorship."
The pair will join a group of 25 people starting at Cusco. The trek will be a total physical challenge to the walkers, who will be walking at altitude, the highest point being some 3,900m above sea level. On some days they will walk for six hours at these levels.
The money raised will help fund overnight nursing care at Holme Tower, the day centre and the Marie Curie Nursing Service which provides care for patients in their own homes.
Morwenna and Lee are already undertaking regular training at Penarth Leisure Centre and are hoping to raise £10,000 by the end of the walk.
Morwenna, who works at Thomson's Wealth Management with Lee, says one way people can help them is by investing money with them, and a percentage of the interest they earn will go to sponsorship.
They can be contacted on 2065 0650.
