Music stars

I WAS surprised and disappointed that your report, May 2, of the Penarth Rotary 'Evening of Music' at Stanwell school on the last Thursday in April contained scant reference to the actual performances.

From the moment that the choir from Ysgol Gymraeg marched on to the stage to the moment the jazz band and pop group from Stanwell played their last note we were all well entertained by a varied programme of choral and instrumental music.

It would be invidious to praise any one school more than another as they had obviously worked extremely hard on their individual pieces.

From the delicate beauty of the harp to the frenetic and energy sapping drumming and dancing of the Samba group via the mobile sounds of cellos, violins and clarinets and beautiful voices of the choirs the presentation was perfect due in no small way to the hard work and encouragement of their dedicated teachers which brought them up to concert pitch.

The evening ended with contrasting presentations by Penarth's senior schools.

St Cyres' choral renditions were executed with verve and passion whilst Stanwell's jazz band played a couple of classics in big band style complete with vocalist and their pop group and dancers had a whole group of supporters applauding.

One choral number asked for 'One Moment in Time'.

That evening was the moment in time for all the performances and they seized it with great gusto.
